You Can't Catch Me...

Our sweet little one has recently learned that he does not just have to comply to our little requests...such as, "Bennett, let's change your diaper..." or "Okay, it is time to get dressed..." These requests now send him running in the opposite direction through our house - hiding anywhere that will protect him from the inevitable. He uses the dining room table to see which direction I am heading, then he runs accordingly (in the opposite direction).

After a few minutes of his squeals and subsequent pitter patter of the feet on the hardwoods, I decided I could play this game camera in-hand - as I wanted to capture the many expressions of Bennett. I think I have 7 other photos with varying levels of his grin.

And because the weather over the past 10 days has mostly been completely glorious, I couldn't complete the post without an outdoor picture. Bennett has been transformed (I think it only took two outings) to an, "I want to play outdoors kid." Without an attached garage, it is a fight I have with him daily from the car into the house. He doesn't understand that we can't play outside each time we are outside.

But, oh are we soaking it up. Today was such a big boy day for Bennett. He explored our backyard more fearlessly than any day before and we found time to walk to the park with Anna and Jake for swinging and sliding. In the morning we went for a special munckin donut treat at Dunkin Donuts and in the afternoon we returned to Sport Clips for a second hair cut - he was perfect!

We have walked "dog-dog" nearly every evening. Zach and I are delighted to have our evening walks and talks return to our daily schedule.

This is just how busy our monkey is...not wanting to miss out on anything. But when it is time to end the day - read books and rock, he snuggles in just right with me and doesn't move. Love that ending to a day.

Out of Touch

As you might have guessed from our lack of attention to the blog- our life has been busier than ever these last few months. With work, family life, friends and trying to sell our home we hardly have time for anything else. However, we were able to get to a concert a few weeks ago that was much needed. The Avett Brothers were in town playing at the Murat on February 28th. For those of you not yet familiar with the band do yourself a favor and look into them. Below is a brief snippet from the concert. Remember to pause the music from the right sidebar to hear the video.

16 months

Bennett will be 16 months this weekend - not a major milestone - but I just wanted to take a few minutes to reflect on the many things I am loving about him right now because, well, that makes me happy. I smile as I type thinking about the happiness he brings to us.

1. That we can give him a popsicle to help a busted lip. And regardless of how sour he thinks it is, he kept on licking and sucking until it was gone and covering his face, hands and shirt.
2. Taking independence to a new level. Upon walking into the kitchen at any given time of the day, he might decide he wants a banana. Its not that I give him anything he wants, but it's a banana and he likes them and they are good for him. So our new ritual is to peel it, I hold and he takes these enormous bites until it is gone. I love it.
3. Running. No walking exists. Just running.
4. When he is 10 feet away from a set of stairs, but because we have practiced at my parents, he turns around and starts sliding backwards on his tummy.
5. His smile. Seconds before I snapped this picture, he was trying to walk the dog, but when I picked up the camera, he dropped the leash and smiled. I melted.
6. How much he loves to take a book off his shelf and run over to the same hardwood floor spot in his room to spread out and read the book.
7. Trying to sing E-I-E-I-O in Old MacDonald Had a Farm
8. Laughing at other littles around him - little friends or little cousins. He likes other children and I love it.
9. When his daddy is laying on the floor, he will run over and lay on top of him and say "awww."
10. Dress-up and Easter Outfits. We are still a bit stir crazy, so we tried on an Easter outfit...picked it up on clearance last spring for $13.50 and it is perfect.

I love john johns and tall socks. And the fact that he tolerates dress up so well.
